Dinner with the Knicks

Box of beer and hot dogs from the food stand...
Hot dog on its way into undersigned's face hole
Go Knicks! 3 beers and 4 hot dogs brought to seat by hot dog lady:
MSG seat-service hot dog kit...
...Bonus: comes with potato chips...
...and cheese dipping sauce!
bit of game... Go Knicks!
No foam finger = no fun
No. 1 fans re-use their foam fingers as Dom cozies
LOCATION: Section 78, Row L, Seat 1, Madison Square Garden
CATEGORY: Junk food, game food
WE THINK: $170 for 7 beers, 8 hot dogs and a couple of foam hands! A tad expensive but a very delightful food experience.
OUR TIPS: (1) Don't eat the sauerkraut or melted cheese. (2) Do (or don't do) a crazy dance to catch the attention of the photographers so as to get yourself onto the big screen. (3) Buy a foam hand - it's fun, warm and comes in handy (pardon the pun) as a cozy.

Taco, take 3

Turn left for Mercado Libertad
Mercado Libertad
Infinity food court
Bistec (steak) and papas con chorizo (potato and chorizo)
(from bottom clockwise) Taco al pastor, picadillo (pork and beef)
and chicharron (pork skin)
Ejotes con huevos (green beans and egg)
Torta al pastor
(Top to bottom) Lengua en salsa verde (tongue) and picadillo
Preparation of Ricos Tacos de Barbacoa
Tacos de Barbacoa
Bottom right corner: Ready-to-eat delicious tacos de barbacoa
Cheap cheap cheap
The nicest guys in Guadalajara slaughtering piggy banks and posing
LOCATION: Ricos Tacos, Mercado Libertad, Guadalajara, Mexico
CATEGORY: Mexican, Tacos, fast food
DRINK: nothing
WE THINK: Another instalment from yum-town and our best and cheapest taco experience (ever, we think). 6 hungry people eating like pigs set us back US$16. Enter the pandemonium of Mercado Libertad and head for the 2-storey food court. Pick any taqueria that takes your fancy (though make an attempt to find Ricos as the guys there are awesome) and order rounds of heavenly tacos till the heartburn forces you to stop. Favourites were the pastor and barbacoa.

Lunch with The Boss

"The Palace Warm Lobster Salad"
lobster, green beans, new potatoes and scallions
"Palm Beach Shrimp Salad" with mixed greens, palm hearts,
avocado, tomatoes and hard boiled eggs in green dressing
"Estelle's chicken soup"
Linguine Vongole (baby clams, olive oil, garlic and tomato)
LOCATION: Fred's at Barneys New York, Madison Avenue, New York
CATEGORY: Italian, American, lunch
DRINK: Moët & Chandon champagne, sparkling water
WE THINK: Have a perfect New York experience and eat lunch at Fred's next to Bruce Springsteen and lots of fine ladies with bouffant hair. The lobster salad and linguine vongole were delicious, the chicken soup so-so (but very soothing in December) while the Palm Beach shrimp salad was a bit of a flop. Fred thinks champagne for lunch is very ok.

Saba mackerel
Yellowtail sashimi with jalapeno
Tai with dry miso
Sashimi salad (big eye tuna)
Rock shrimp tempura with (from top) shichimi ponzu,
creamy spicy sauce and jalapeno dressing
Wagyu gyozas
Black cod with miso
Ume shiso (sour plum paste) roll
LOCATION: Nobu at the Shoreclub, Miami
CATEGORY: Japanese
DRINK: Onikoroshi sake ("Demon slayer")
WE THINK: Don your fancy pants and money belt for some yummy fare at Nobu and party like it's 2004. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the over-priced food, in particular the yellowtail with jalapenos, wagyu gyozas, rock shrimp tempura, saba and kohada sushi. Not sure what to drink? We recommend the demon slayer from bamboo cups. Itadakimasu!

Al fresco dining at Don Camelon
- saves your clothes from smelling deep-fried
"Torta ahogada camaron"
Traditional Guadalajaran sandwich drenched in tasty sauce
(above version with shrimps)
Burrita con chorizo
Swimming in tasty sauce, Guadalajara fashion
"Ahogadita mini" with pork, swimming in tasty sauce
LOCATION: Don Camelon, Av. Providencia No. 2393, Guadalajara, Mexico
CATEGORY: Mexican, Guadalajaran, fast food
DRINK: Fanta
WE THINK: Take your cheesy sandwich for a little swim in some tasty sauce and you've got yourself a recipe for a great meal. Will it make you feel healthy and attack the day with a springy step? Probably not, but you're in Mexico so that's ok. Don Camelon is a no-frills spot for this Guadalajaran must-eat and the Don himself will take your order sitting down next to you.

Taco, take 2

Taco al pastor
Nopales (taco with cactus)
Bistec (steak taco)
Lime, pineapple, onion, green salsa, red salsa
Al fresco dining
LOCATION: El Fogoncito,  Col. Anzures, Mexico City, Mexico
CATEGORY: Tacos, Mexican
DRINK: bottle of water
WE THINK: Riding the taco wave to another great taqueria in Mexico City with yummy pastor and nopales. Loved the condiment set-up which included fresh and crunchy pineapple.
